Carematix Wellness System

The Carematix Wellness System (CWS) provides a communications link between patients with chronic disease and their care givers, applying Carematix's expertise in clinical measurements, wireless solutions, and web/internet systems to achieve this vital connection. The CWS provides easy monitoring of the basic wellness parameters such as blood pressure, pulse, weight and sugar level via the Web, enabling care givers to make better informed, faster patient care management decisions that contribute to reduced ER visits, hospital readmissions and improved quality of life. CWS is a low cost, user-friendly, modular, wireless, web-enabled, wellness monitoring system. The core solution consists of:

A wireless enabled monitoring device for vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, weight. A hub that collects the data from the monitoring device. An internet server that receives and stores the data from the hub.

Patients use Carematix's wireless monitoring devices in their homes to measure their weight, blood pressure and other vital signs as advised by their care giver. The monitoring device stores the reading with a time stamp and transmits the data to the hub. The communication between the monitoring device and the hub occurs over a wireless network, and can work through multiple walls up to 100 feet away. Once the hub receives the reading, it is pushed via a phone or a personal computer to the Carematix internet server where it is added to the patient's chart. The patient or care giver can now track the relevant data, graph it, monitor trends, annotate variances, set alert criteria and receive alerts via e-mail or pager.

The following monitoring devices** are currently available from Carematix:

• Blood pressure unit (Arm cuff and Wrist cuff)
• Weight Scale
• Glucose Meter

Besides the monitoring devices, the patient also needs a hub. A single hub can collect data from one or more monitoring devices. There are two options to set up the hub - connect to a phone line or connect to a serial port of a personal computer. The hub collects the data from the monitoring device over the wireless network and transmits it to the Internet Server via the phone line or the personal computer.

The Internet Server can handle data for up to 100,000 patients. This server can be either installed at the care giver's site or can be outsourced to Carematix. The server can be accessed by the patient or the care giver using a web browser - Internet Explorer version 5.x or above, and Netscape version 6.x and above.
